Vietnam fires destroy 1,600 hectares of forest

More than 150 forest fires have destroyed in excess of 1,600 hectares of forest in the first two months of 2009 – more than the entire total lost to fire in 2009. According to a Thanh Nien News report, approximately 700 hectares of forest were destroyed by wildfires in Lao Cai province, while Lai Chau and Ha Giang provinces were also badly affected.
